Lauren and David's Elegant Evening at The John Marshall
These two... I've been waiting to write about them for almost seven months! Lauren wheeled into our office a little over a year before their wedding day on May 25, 2019. I say "wheeled" because she was in a wheelchair - after being thrown from a horse just shortly after starting to date her now her then fiancé - David! In true Lauren style - I'll touch on this and then I'll move on -- but their story embodies true love, genuine happiness, and amazing perspective on what's important in life. To go through what they went through, so early in their relationship - speaks volumes to their character and their commitment to each other.
So what did I love most about their wedding day? The fact that they were so cool and calm. Lauren laughed at me at one point and said "Kate, I think you care more about the design and look of this wedding than I do!". It was probably true - I lost sleep over the giant fabric welcome sign and whether the dimensions were right, and if the quality of the printing would look right. I cared deeply about how the light canopy would look in the ballroom without taking away from the classic ambiance of the venue. I obsessed over the color greens in the day-of materials compared to her invitation suite and bridesmaids dresses. And Lauren is right - I was the only one stressing - because her focus was on her rehab, her future hubby, and finally being married. What great perspective they had - and it was a wonderful reminder that as wedding planners, we are not saving lives - we are planning weddings. We are taking the stress away from the couples so they can just focus on what's important.
If I could do it all again, I know I would still stress about the details (because it's in my nature) - but it was wonderful to have their energy centered on all the right things - and allow me some creative freedom to put together a fun design. They were adamant that they wanted a simple classic design without any "fluffy" things. But as you look through the photos - you'll see I was able to sneak some fluff in!!
